Colossians 3:14 [AMP] Beyond all these things put on and wrap yourselves in [unselfish] love, which is the perfect bond of unity [for everything is bound together in agreement when each one seeks the best for others].
Have you ever walked into a room filled with smiling people embracing one another, throwing compliments here and there, but you didn’t feel the authenticity of what was happening in the moment? Thinking: “Yeah sure they show outward affection, but then again if I risk dropping this pin in the middle of the floor everyone would probably scatter to his or her own corner of the room”. So you stand in the middle of this crowded room feeling an overwhelming sense of instability all around you; and now you are uncomfortable and contemplating rather or not you should stay and connect with these people.
This expression is hard but altogether very true. I believe many of us have been here before where things just did not seem as though they were. Over the years, especially transitioning into 2016, I have had to ask myself, “Why is humanity so disconnected”? I took a look at the unity circle emblem that displays a circumference of interlocking hands. If you are not sure of what I’m talking about you would recognize it on business logos or community websites projecting a culture of unity, togetherness, and love for humanity. I’ve always figured it to be a powerful symbol, but I am now thoroughly convinced that humanity has no clue as to what this symbol truly exemplifies. As we first acknowledge God as being supreme and the creator of all things, we should ask ourselves, what did He have in mind when He inspired the interlocking hands? What truly holds us together?…….. The answer of course is LOVE.
Disconnect is the direct result of an interrupted flow of love. Think about the links in a chain that are reinforced and bonded together with strong adhesive. Love is like that SUPERNATURAL ADHESIVE given to us by God. It bonds us together like glue so that with every pull or tug, love reinforces the connection between every link! Holding hands in a prayer circle is nice and formative. It also represents being unified in the faith for a common purpose of seeing God move on our desired petitions, but if the individuals are without love, all missions will fail. True and great faith “is activated and expressed and works through love” (Galatians 5:6). Where there is a people void of love you see disconnect, miscommunication, confusion, deception, or in this case a BROKEN CHAIN! This broken chain exists between friends, family members, businesses, and unfortunately the Body of Christ. True love mends and connects. TRUE LOVE RESTORES!
The biblical definition of godly love is “AGAPE” in the greek. This love is an attribute of God because “God is love!” Therefore, “AGAPE” carries the power of God to produce miracles, such as healing the sick or raising the dead. This is only possible when you have God’s love. It took the love of God for Christ to pour out all of His eternal glory, become sin as a pure and innocent man, submit to the sentence of death, and then RESURRECT from the grave. The resurrection is only the response of true love. LOVE being the strongest power on the earth is the same power that brought Christ back to us from the dead! Oh what a great love in that He would come back just for us! Amen!
Agape love does not come naturally to a human because it is an act of the will. Once you “will” or “choose” to agape someone without fear of the cost, even when tired, or broken, a supernatural grace (God’s ability) takes over to carry you along the way. Let’s use our High Priest as an example. God gave Jesus grace and help along the way to fulfill His assignment here on Earth. “And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.” -Matthew 27:32. This is why it is so important to have agape love to press beyond the superficial. Agape love, the love that pulls on the very person of God, will cause Him to identify with the agape love you carry. As a result, He will then begin to fill you with more of His strength and power to do what He has mandated you to do. He will also connect you with help along the way! Hallelujah!
So today, lets challenge our distinction as children of God. I challenge you to ask God to remove your barriers and filters that block love’s flow. Ask Him to place that thing in your heart He would like you to accomplish for someone else. Whether it be giving a stranger gas money, picking a friend up for church, telling someone you don’t know about Jesus, paying for someones groceries and then loading them in their car, etc. Whatever it is, do it unto the glory of the Lord without desiring the recognition, and watch God empower you in the most profound way. TODAY IS THE DAY OF AGAPE! Let us pay it forward by sharing the good news and the unconditional love of Jesus Christ!
HEU: “May God’s love become contagious as you set out on your journey today.”
Supporting Scriptures (KJV)
John 3:16 _ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Ephesians 2:4-8 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace are yet saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come He might shew the exceeding riches of His grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
John 15:3 – Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
1 Corinthians 13:1-2 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
